(Waking times | Randi G. Fine) Have you ever wondered why people who are strangers or people you hardly know open up to you and share their most trusted thoughts? Do you have an instant connection with animals? Are you unable to watch violence, cruelty, or tragedy on television or in the movies because your soul just can’t bear it? Do you have an instant knowing about the character of the people you meet upon first meeting them? Are you highly spiritual and find the physical world and everything in it heavy? Are you often tired and have physical ailments that cannot be medically explained? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions you may be an empath.

 

Empaths are people who are highly sensitive to the energy and the emotions of the people, animals, and sometimes even the spiritual imprints that exist around them. Some are even sensitive to the energy of plants. This extreme sensitivity applies to the familiar as well as the unfamiliar; people we are intimately close with and total strangers. We experience the world around us and feel what other people are feeling through our extraordinarily heightened senses and keen intuitions. We often internalize the feelings of others without being aware we are doing it and interpret those feelings as being our own.

 

Just as with every other healthy minded individual, empaths have the ability to empathize with whom they are interacting. We are able to relate to how others feel and understand what they are experiencing. What sets empaths apart is our higher-than-average level of empathy, the ease at which we can connect to the feelings of others, and the range within which we can do it. And where others experience feelings of empathy that are cued by interacting with others, empaths do not always. We do not have to rely on the physical senses of sight, hearing, or touch, or clues from our interactions with others, to pick up on the emotions and energies around us. We can feel and internalize emotions from people near and far.

 

Crowded places such as shopping malls, supermarkets, stadiums or movie theaters can overwhelm the senses of the empath. They may fill him with uncomfortable emotions, emotions that feel as if they are his own, picked up from the all the energies around him. Environments with depressive, low energy, such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and hospitals can cause feelings of depression, physical maladies, and fatigue in the empath. Thrift stores, consignment shops, and antique stores, places that carry the residual energy of previous owners can be very draining for empaths as can used cars or pre-owned houses. I love antiques but I have had to stop frequenting those types of shops because they zap my already low energy, energy that may be constantly being depleted by the many pieces I already have in my home. I am not willing to part with them so we will just have to find a way to live together.

 

Empaths are avid seekers of solutions, answers and knowledge. We are deep thinkers and studiers. Believers that there is a solution for every problem, and uncomfortable and frustrated until we find it, empaths will tirelessly search until they are satisfied. Those who are spiritually connected will ask God or the universe for guidance and answers. Our gift allows us to tap into the spiritual realm and tune into its energies. We frequently experience synchronicities, phenomena that occur in everyone’s life, but because we are more connected than most people to the supernatural world we more easily recognize these coincidences as signposts of guidance.

 

Empaths have great interest in metaphysics. Likely having experienced paranormal experiences of our own, whether it be near death experiences, out of body experiences, psychic ability, or a connection with those who have crossed over to the other side, we easily incorporate this unseen reality into our physical experience without question. We naturally know that these things are so without requiring any rational explanation.

 

With a natural ability to tap into Universal energy and heal others, empaths tend to gravitate toward work in the fields of holistic therapies and energy work. Our sensitivity allows us to feel the emotions of others, influence their bodies and minds, and create harmony within them. In order to do that, empaths must learn ways to keep the energy of others from becoming their own. Otherwise the balance and harmony we create in others will cause unbalance and disharmony within us.

 

Empaths are usually non-violent and non-aggressive people who love peaceful and harmonious environments. Disharmony makes us uncomfortable. We will do everything we can to avoid it. If and when we are confronted with turbulence we will take on the role of peacemaker and will work toward a resolution as quickly as possible. I have played the role of peacemaker with family and friends since I was a little child.

 

We are painfully sensitive to violence, cruelty, and tragedy, whether real or dramatically acted out. Watching it on the television, in the movies, or reading about anything that involves the physical or emotional suffering of another feels nearly unbearable. The suffering of people, children, or animals becomes our own suffering. We fully identify with it and feel it. There are many things I cannot watch on television without becoming extremely depressed, but the first one that comes to mind is Sarah McLachlan’s ASPCA commercial about animal cruelty. I quickly change the channel the second it comes on; otherwise I begin to internalize the suffering of the animals.

 

I am a vegetarian who occasionally eats fish and seafood. It is never a comfortable experience for me because I can’t help thinking about the once beautiful living and breathing animal that was killed, maybe even suffered, and is now on my plate. I don’t feel as if my right to eat it super cedes the animal’s right to live.

 

Because empaths feel things so deeply and tend to be nurturing, we often work as volunteers who passionately dedicate their time to helping animals, children, others in need, or the environment. We are excellent listeners who are truly interested in the happiness and welfare of others.

 

Because of our natural ability to know things without being told, we can be a great asset to others because we tend to know where others are coming from. But this knowing ability also makes it very difficult for others to lie to us, put on a facade, or hide their emotions. We just know the feelings and intentions of other people, even if we have just met them. We are also adept at reading body language and noticing subtle inflections of speech that others might miss.

 

Empaths require truthfulness in others and in their selves. We feel terribly uncomfortable with those we perceive to be lying to us, manipulating us, or acting phony. Because of the way it makes us feel we do not accept or tolerate that type of behavior from anyone, including ourselves. And where we are generally very tolerable people, we absolutely cannot tolerate unnecessary drama, egotistical behavior, or self-centeredness; especially that of narcissists. We also cannot tolerate negativity in others, especially judgment and jealousy. Those attitudes immediately drain our energy.

 

We cannot lie to ourselves, nor can we pretend to enjoy things that we don’t enjoy, whether it involves social activities or our work. Our work must feel meaningful to us or it will end up making us emotionally, spiritually, and physically unwell. Many empaths work in creative fields such as art, dance, writing, or music; expressive fields that feeds their souls and is vital to their well-beings.

 

We also cannot pretend to be happy when we’re not, and unhappiness can take us over at any moment. Because of the bombardment of overwhelming energies, negative and positive, empaths are highly prone to mood swings. We can be easy going and happy one minute and miserable the next without any logical transition. We may be the life of the party one minute and then quiet and reclusive the next. When we are miserable we can’t hide it even if we want to. It is written across our face for everyone to see.Freedom

One thing that makes us very unhappy is restrictions. Empaths are free spirits who must have their freedom of movement and expression. We feel imprisoned by control, rules that are too rigid or that we do not believe in, and routines. Many of our life experiences have been daring or adventurous — we have a great need to experience the true pulse of life, whether good or bad. And having had these various life experiences we have knowledge on a wide range of topics. This often makes us appear wise to others, though we are usually quiet about our achievements unless asked. We are more comfortable pointing out the achievements and attributes of others.

 

Empaths exude a deep level of warmth and compassion that draws others to them. Strangers sense that about us on a subconscious level and find themselves telling us private things about their lives. Before they realize what they have done they have poured out their heart to us. Animals bond to us very quickly for the same reasons.

 

Our deepest mutual connections are with those who those who are like us, those who get us, and those we can be expressive, open and frank with. We can form lasting friendships with those who are not like us but it will always feel as if an element of the relationship missing.

 

Empaths have difficulty staying focused on things that do not stimulate their minds. We are daydreamers who get bored or distracted easily. When we are not stimulated our minds will go off to other places, sometimes even detach from the physical reality.

 

We live our lives in duality. Empaths physically exist in the dense, dark world filled with negativity and lower energy called Earth, but they mentally exist in the light, pure, high energy, optimistic world of spirit. It is hard for us to stay grounded because we understand the freedom of the alternative world, but we must stay grounded because that is the way we all complete our Earthly missions.

• There were several reasons for creating a realm with this duality. Yesterday, we spoke of how the universes were created in order for souls to have the opportunity to experience “not love.” This would be impossible in a realm where all is one. Thus, the vast majority of new realms have been set up with a balance of both light and dark. For those choosing earth, you have the unique opportunity to choose what you wish to experience due to the creation of what you call “free will.” Know that each person “reaps what he sows” and that “like attracts like.” In this realm, everything has a “boomerang” effect. The more you give love to others, the more love you will receive in return. The more fear you impose on others, the more fear will be returned to you. We share this with you to let you know that although you have “free will” to choose whatever you experience, there are repercussions associated with each of your choices. If it is your desire to create “heaven on earth” then it is your responsibility to make the choices leading to your desired outcome. Each one of you that learns and practices inner peace and kindness towards another, moves one step closer to creating “heaven on earth.” Take time each day to reflect on your thoughts, words and emotions. Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi Balkhi was a 13th century Muslim Sufi saint. After so many centuries his message of Love is being rediscovered and spread by people around the world. Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi Balkhi or as commonly known as Rumi has written a few books among them is his famous Masnavi in Persian language. His main theme in his books are Love of Allah(god), which made him love humanity, nature and everything good. In his burning in the flame of love he has written many poems and couplets. The Love of Allah was ignited in his heart by his spiritual teacher(Murshid/ Shaikh) Shams e Tabrizi who took Rumi as his only student(seeker/ salik) throughout his life. To this day Rumi's spiritual tradition continues known as Mevlavi Spiritual Order of Islamic Sufism( similar to Naqshbandia, Qadriya, Chistia, Soharwardia, Naqshbandiah Owaisiah spiritual orders), they are also known as whirling dervishes. Rumi's message is of Love, which people need the most in these days. There is great wisdom in his poetry and his message of Love is for all.

Page 2 And I say unto you:You can open your heart to Love.Love has no bounds.Love must be unfettered on all levels.Love does not cry: murder, as this darkens our very soul.How can we kill that which we love? Love does not cry: hate, for how can we hate, when to do so we would hate ourselves in the same process? ’ 4. Page 3 Love does not cry: Greed !; How can we take more than that which is the measure of our capacity? Love does not fear. How can we fear? For we know what we fear is not real. Love does not lust. How can we grasp after what we have already ?’ 5. Page 4. Love does not envy; Love knows we have all. Love does not steal, as this would take away the very heart of our giving, which isLove. Love does not cry: Judgement!; Love is not bound to scales of more or less.It is the self-sustainer of its own balance.How can we judge, lest we bejudged ?’ 6. Page 5. Love does not blame.To be blameless is the true gift.Love does not discriminate as discrimination is not the truth.Love does not lie.This is just fear to hide behind.Love transcends All.The Breath of life is Love.’ 7. All that is composed is of the elements, and it is your attachment to this structure that has no permanence.Attachment to your corrupt nature is that which binds you to matter and to illusion and suffering.Attachment to matter is a force to be reckoned with ! Those who have ears, let them hear. 8. Page 7. Mary then questioned her Master, saying: Describe to us the nature of matter. What is matter ? Is it eternal ? Or, at the end of an aeon, will it be destroyed ? And the Lord replied: That which is born and that which is created within the elements of nature are woven within and related to one another. All that is composed shall be decomposed and will return to its origins. Matter returns to the principle that sent it forth, as everything returns to its roots .Those who have ears, let them hear. 9. Peter said, You have taught us of the elements of life and matter, and of how all the world is woven from them. Tell us, what is the sin of the world, that it should die ? The Lord answered, Matter has no sin. Sin has no real existence; it is you yourselves who create it when, as in the nature of adultery, you are unfaithful to your true nature and act within the habit of your corrupt nature.That is why the gift of the Christ Light was put into your heart, and why I came into your midst, to restore every soul to its Source.The Lord continued, That is why you become sick and why you die; it is the result of your actions, which takes you away from your Source.Those that would listen, let them hear! 10. Page 8.Matter gave birth to a passion that has no equal, a passion for itself, which is contrary to Divine nature. Matter caused powerful passions to enter into you, forces which arise from the attraction of opposites (duality).Thus are you pulled apart, and a disharmony arises to disturb unity throughout its whole body.This is why I tell you, be at one; be in harmony, one with another.If your courage fails you and you feel out of sorts, go out into nature, and take heart from its manifestations of beauty and harmony with the Divine nature.Those who have ears, let them hear!’ When the Blessed One had said these things, He greeted them all, saying: Peace be unto you, receive my peace into yourselves. Allow no one to lead you astray by saying, Lo, he is here ! or, Lo, he is there ! 11. For my truth is within you; It is within your heart that the Son of God dwells.And I tell you, I live within all.If you seek the Son of God, follow after Him to your innermost wherein He dwells. Go within; those who seek Him will find Him.Walk forth, and teach the truth -the Gospel of the Kingdom.’ 12. Page 9. Do not impose any rules beyond what I appointed you, and take care not to lay down a law like the lawgiver, lest you be ensnared in its constraints and lose your freedom.When the Lord had said these words, He departed. The disciples grieved, they sorrowed and shed tears, saying: How can we go amongst the Gentiles and announce the Gospel of the Kingdom of the Son of God ? If they would not spare our Lord, they will assuredly not spare us ! Then Mary arose; embraced each one, and began to speak words of comfort to her brethren, saying gently:Take heart! He will be with you always. Do not remain in sorrow or in doubt, for our Lord will guide and protect you. Instead, let us praise his magnitude; he has prepared us for what lies ahead and is calling upon us to become fully human.In saying this, Mary lifted their hearts towards the good, and they began to discuss the teachings of Jesus. 13. I will now reveal to you that which has not yet been made known to you. I had a vision of our Lord, and I said unto him, Lord, I see you now in a vision.’ And he said unto me : Mary, you are blessed, for my appearance does not make you afraid. Where the nous (awareness in itself) is, there lies the treasure. I replied to him, Lord, when someone meets you in a vision, is it through our soul that we are able to see you, or is it through our spirit ? And the Lord answered Mary, it is neither. But it is the nous between the two which sees the vision and it is this which makes us fully human.’ 14. Page 11. When we become fully human, we become one whole body of light, the One breath. When we join that One breath we become whole; we become at-one. The breath conjoins life-death-life at the mid-point which is the heart, called the noon of our being (Awareness itself). This is where the nous lies. We are all aspects of life, of One being, of One whole. All aspects of life have to be overcome.It is true that everything in our physical structure is composed, and will decompose.But we can overcome this process. 15. Page 12. All that is composed is of the elements, and our attachment is to this structure. Dissociate your soul from matter! (But don’t deny it, justdon’t confuse your Self with it).Once the two are apart the ascent can begin. The awareness of breath(life) sustains the soul and gives it life, and it is this which detaches you from matter.It is through the nous (awareness itself) that we see, for it is the eye of the vision within the soul. And it is with the vision of the nous that we overcome the without, within (duality of all). 16. Page 13.We can overcome the four elements of our attachment to matter, illusion and suffering and all the oppressions of the soul. And I listened to my Master, and I felt my soul ascending. And as the soul ascended to the first element (earth), the soul asked : Why are we afraid of death? For death itself is not fearful. It is the attachment of (or identification with) our body that causes fear to arise. 17. Page 14.And Fear replied: Why are you afraid of the darkness? ’ And the soul answered: Fear, why do you hide in the darkness? I have known you, and your power,but it is you who are afraid. And the soul left with grace and continued to the second element(Water).On reaching the second element, Desire was taken aback at the souls arrival, having neither seen it nor expected it. 18. Page 15. And Desire said: “I did not see you descend, but I see you now, ascending. Why do you pretend to ascend? Why do you lie, when you know you are mine?” And the soul replied: I saw you, but you did not recognise me. Nor did you see me, because your power urged me to give you a body, which you thought was yours. I served you as a garment and you never knew it was me (Soul). You never felt me, and now that I have reclaimed myself, you are without the body I gave you, and you cannot recognise me.When this was said, the soul left, rejoicing greatly.When the soul entered the third element,which was Ignorance, Ignorance questioned the soul: 19. Page 16. Where do you think you are going, you who are dominated by wicked inclinations? What are you thinking ?How can you possibly want to leave me? Indeed, you have no discrimination at all, and you are clearly out of your mind. The soul answered: Why do you judge me, as I have not passed judgement on you? I have been oppressed, but I myself do not oppress. I have not been recognised,but I myself recognise that all things which are composed shall be decomposed, on earth and in heaven;not only earthly structures, but also the things of the psyche (air). You may think you are eternal, but you are not.’On hearing this, Ignorance was slain. 20. Page 17. Freed from the third element, the soul ascended to the fourth element, the fourth is Fear of Death; expressed in anger, the unenlightened element of Fire.The fifth is the Power of the Flesh; which has seven manifestations. The first is Darkness; the second is Desire; the third is Ignorance ,the sixth is Foolish (impure or guileful) Wisdom; the seventh is Self-righteous Materialism.These are the seven powers of wrath. And they tried to overcome the soul with questions so that it might lose its footing. Where have you come from, Murderer?’ and Where are you going, Slayer of Space? ’ But the soul, poised in radiance, answered joyfully: “That which bound me has been slain. That which enveloped me has vanished. My desires are no more, and I have overcome the fetters of my ignorance. 21. Page 18. In an age of Darkness I escaped the world with the aid of the supernal world. My emotional attachment to matter, which determined my limitations, was erased by virtue of a higher design. I was released from the fetter of Ignorance which seems eternal, but is only transient. Henceforth I am centred in Repose and until matter has run its course my sanctuary will be encompassed in unassailable peace. 22. Oblivion:I go now into Silence.’Having said this, Mary fel silent, for she had given the secret teaching of herLord. Andrew then began to speak, saying: You can say what you like about what she has said ; I, for one, do not believe a word of it. I cannot believe that the Saviour would speak of such strange notions!’ Peter joined in his refutation, saying in anger: It is not possible that the Lord spoke of these things in this manner with a woman, saying nothing of them to us! Are we then to humble ourselves before a woman, to turn about and all listen to her? Are we asked to believe that he really preferred her to us? ’ 23. Page 19. At this, Mary wept and said to Peter : My brother Peter, what can you be thinking? Why do you not believe the words of our Lord ? Do you really think that this is all my own fancy, or that I would lie about the Saviour ? At this point, Levi rebuked Peter, saying: Peter, you have always been hot-headed. And now we see you doubting a woman as worthy as Mary, just as our adversaries would do. If our Lord held Mary in high esteem, who are you to question her integrity and reject her words? We all know our Lord loved Mary in a way that He loved no other. 24. Therefore let us make amends.Let us do as our Lord has taught.Let us express brotherhood one to another, and to all, and become fully human so that the Saviour can flourish in us. Let us grow according to his teachings, and walk abroad to spread the gospel, without laying down any rules and laws other than the Law of Christ. Let us separate as he commanded us and preach his truth. And when they heard his words, they began to go forth to proclaim and to preach. 25.
