Martin Haditsch naar India, de Verenigde Staten, Italië en Duitsland waar hij samen met gerenommeerde wetenschappers onverklaarbare zaken en gebeurtenissen van de afgelopen twee jaar probeert op te helderen. *Twijfels over cijfers In de Verenigde Staten spreekt Haditsch met Nobelprijswinnaar prof. dr. Michael Levitt over de compleet verschillende manieren waarmee Amerikaanse staten de coronacrisis hebben doorgemaakt. Levitt uit de twijfel die hij vanaf het begin had over de cijfers. Vrijheidsbeperkende maatregelen worden met dashboards gerechtvaardigd: cijfers over de bedbezetting op de intensive care, besmettings- en sterftecijfers vormen de basis voor politieke actie. * Tegenstrijdigheden in India India is met bijna 1,4 miljard inwoners het op één na dichtstbevolkte land ter wereld. In 2021 zou de ergste coronagolf tot nu toe het land in Zuid-Azië getroffen hebben. Beelden van massabegrafenissen en miljoenen werknemers die hun huizen ontvluchten, reizen de wereld rond. Paniek over de zogenaamde Indiase variant slaat toe, vooral in Europa. Kort daarna daalde het aantal gevallen drastisch. Wat zit er achter de tegenstrijdige krantenkoppen? Haditsch praat erover met journalist Ajit Kumar Jha en dr. Santanu Chatterjee, internist en arts gespecialiseerd in tropische medicijnen. Hoe kwam het dat er ondanks de paniek in India uiteindelijk toch niet zoveel mensen overleden?

* ‘Laboratorium van de wereld’ Als de eerste ‘wereldkampioen vaccinatie’ en op koers om het virus in te dammen, stond Israël wereldwijd in de focus. De regering hanteerde strenge lockdowns en een offensieve vaccinatiecampagne. Eerst door vaccinfabrikant Pfizer aangeduid als het ‘laboratorium van de wereld’, schafte het land later zelfs het groene paspoort af. Nu het virus niet verdwenen blijkt komen er steeds meer kritische geluiden over de strenge maatregelen en de rigide vaccinatiecampagne uit het verleden. Haditsch bespreekt de unieke rol van Israël tijdens de ‘pandemie’ met prof. dr. Jacob Giris, internist en chef van het Medisch centrum in Tel Aviv. Ook brengt hij een bezoek aan dr. Yoshua Guetzkov, die beweert dat het percentage gevaccineerden in Israël niet zo hoog is als in andere landen en spreekt hij met rabbijn Chananya Weisman, die Pfizer en de regering ziet als de ‘gezondheidsmaffia’, wegens hun geheime afspraken. * Angst en propaganda Prof. dr. Haditsch treft in Duitsland dr. Mathias Schrappe, die zelf jarenlang adviseur was van de Duitse federale overheid. Hij veroorzaakte opschudding toen hij het gebruik van intensive care-bedden in Duitsland openlijk in twijfel trok. Verspreiden politici en de media opzettelijk twijfelachtige gegevens om controversiële maatregelen te rechtvaardigen? Welke stappen zijn verantwoord en welke niet? Geschreven door Dick Bijl Eind juni publiceert een internationale groep onafhankelijke onderzoekers, waaronder Peter Doshi, een analyse van ernstige bijwerkingen na vaccinatie met mRNA-vaccins die in de gerandomiseerde onderzoeken van Pfizer en Moderna werden gevonden en aan de FDA waren aangeboden. Pfizer vond het ‘ethisch onverantwoord’ om, na de positieve resultaten van hun onderzoek na 2 maanden waarmee het bedrijf zijn handelsvergunning verwierf, de placebogroep een vaccinatie te onthouden. Hierdoor werd de opzet van die onderzoeken verstoord en kon een eventueel verschil in bijwerkingen aan het einde van het onderzoek, na enkele jaren, niet meer worden aangetoond. Bijwerkingen De onderzoekers maakten gebruik van een speciaal voor COVID-19 ontworpen vragenlijst met ernstige bijwerkingen die zij toepasten op de gepubliceerde onderzoeksgegevens. De resultaten lieten zien dat de vaccins, in vergelijking met placebo, geassocieerd waren met een statistisch significant verhoogd risico op ernstige bijwerkingen. Vooral stollingsstoornissen en hartaandoeningen kwamen vaak voor. Ernstig was dat het risico op ernstige bijwerkingen met de vaccins, in vergelijking met placebo, groter was dan het risico op ziekenhuisopname door COVID-19. De onderzoekers concluderen dat hun onderzoek wijst op de noodzaak van het maken van een analyse van de balans van werkzaamheid en bijwerkingen. Opmerkelijk was dat de FDA met de geruststellende conclusie kwam dat ernstige bijwerkingen vrijwel gelijk over de vaccin- en de placebogroep verdeeld waren. De reden hiervoor was volgens de onderzoekers dat de FDA andere follow-up perioden gebruikte dan zij. De FDA had vooral deelnemers in hun analysen opgenomen met een zeer beperkte follow-up (1 maand in plaats van 2) en vaak maar één prik hadden gekregen. Door deze selectie van deelnemers werden vanwege de kortere duur en de eenmalige toediening minder bijwerkingen geregistreerd. De vraag dient zich aan of Pfizer dit zelf ook al had geconstateerd en, zoals farmabedrijven wel vaker doen, het tegenovergestelde communiceerden, namelijk dat het ethisch niet-verantwoord was om de placebogroep niet te vaccineren. Overdekken door het tegendeel noemt Sigmund Freud dat, een alledaags psychopathologisch fenomeen. Kennelijk hadden de deskundigen bij het CBG ook niet het goede telraam gebruikt, want zij wisten al – nog voordat de EMA de vaccins begin 2021 goedkeurde – dat ze prima werkten. Werkzaamheid In dit verband is het volgende onderzoek van groot belang. Een groep onderzoekers onder leiding van de Deense hoogleraar microbiologie Christine Stabell Benn verrichtte een meta-analyse waarin de effecten van de coronavaccins op overlijden ongeacht de oorzaak bij volwassenen werden onderzocht. Het ging om 9 onderzoeken met in totaal 196.357 deelnemers. Vergeleken werden de 2 vectorvaccins (AstraZeneca en Janssen) met de controlegroepen en geconcludeerd werd dat ze het risico op overlijden ongeacht de oorzaak statistisch significant verlaagden. Daarentegen hadden de mRNA-vaccins geen statistisch significant effect op overlijden ongeacht de oorzaak. Voorts beschermden de vectorvaccins ook tegen overlijden dat niet gerelateerd was aan COVID-19. De onderzoekers merken op dat de mRNA-vaccinonderzoeken snel werden gestopt vanwege duidelijke effecten op COVID-19-infecties. Zij pleiten echter, vanuit volksgezondheidsperspectief, voor direct vergelijkend onderzoek van beide types vaccins op overlijden ongeacht de oorzaak. Wat dit onderzoek laat zien is dat vaccins zogenoemde niet-specifieke effecten kunnen hebben. Ondanks dat beide typen vaccins een gunstig effect op het voorkomen van ernstige ziekte en overlijden aan COVID-19 hebben, zijn er ook effecten op onder meer hart- en vaatziekten en andere orgaansystemen. Die niet-specifieke effecten leiden ertoe dat het effect  op overlijden ongeacht de oorzaak in het geval van vectorvaccins positief uitvalt en van de mRNA-vaccins niet. Bij medicijnen en interventies in andere vakgebieden, vooral de cardiologie, zien we eenzelfde fenomeen. Terwijl het medicijn of de interventie een specifiek positief effect heeft, is er uiteindelijk geen effect op overlijden ongeacht de oorzaak. En dan zich dient de vraag aan wat we er eigenlijk mee opschieten. Dat geldt in dit geval dus ook voor de mRNA-vaccins. Besluit Bij zowel het beoordelen van de werkzaamheid als bijwerkingen van vaccins spelen dus andere dan wetenschappelijke gegevens een grote rol. Dit is schadelijk voor de wetenschappelijke geneeskunde. Het is een herhaling van zetten uit de Mexicaanse griep[i]: overheden en overheidsadviesorganen zijn niet in staat te leren van fouten.
